WHAT IS A EUROMILLIONS SUPERDRAW?
A EuroMillions Superdraw is a special draw which is boosted to guarantee a 9-figure grand prize. This happens only a few times a year. Apart from the size of the payout, there is no difference between a Superdraw and a regular EuroMillions draw, as all the rules remain the same. That means that if a Superdraw is not won, it rolls over and continues to increase.
WHEN WAS THE LAST EUROMILLIONS SUPERDRAW?
The last EuroMillions Superdraw was held on Friday 27 September 2024. This draw - and the next - went without a winner, so the top payout grew to an almost unimaginable €162 million (R3.1 billion)! Incredibly, just one person hit the top payout on Friday 4 October 2024, meaning they scooped up the whole amount! The winning ticket was bought in the small Northern Spanish town of Derio, and winning numbers were 4, 8, 16, 17, 20 and the Lucky Stars were 1 and 6.
WHEN IS THE NEXT EUROMILLIONS SUPERDRAW?
The next Superdraw has not yet been scheduled. This Superdraw will continue its fine tradition of being one of the richest lotteries in the world, with a guaranteed minimum top payout of €130 million. If the draw takes place and the top payout is not won, it can continue to roll over until it reaches an eye-watering €250 million (R5.22 Billion)!
PREVIOUS SUPERDRAWS
Before the September Superdraw, the previous Superdraw took place on 7th June 2024. The first draw went without a winner, as did the following four! By 25 June 2024 the top payout had reached rarely before seen heights, as it stood at €213 million (R4 billion)! This was very good news for one Portuguese punter in Porto who took home the entire amount having selected the winning numbers 14, 16, 37, 45, 49 and the Lucky Stars 5 and 7.
The EuroMillions Superdraw before this took place on Friday, 15 March 2024. The top payout was hit at the first time asking, with one lucky punter in the Spanish city of Barcelona scooping the entire R2.6 billion for themselves! On this occasion, the winning numbers were 1, 4, 31, 34, 40 and the Lucky Stars 4 and 5.
Before that, a EuroMillions SuperDraw took place on Friday, 26 January 2024. The first SuperDraw of 2024 was not won, so it rolled over to Tuesday, 30 January, with a top payout of over R2.9 billion. When the magic numbers 5, 10, 19, 27 and 30 rolled out, along with the Lucky Stars 5 and 6, two new millionaires were minted in the UK and Spain. They will split the top payout, taking home over R1.45 billion each!
A EuroMillions Superdraw took place on Friday, 1 December, which would have very special consequences. Nobody matched the magic numbers for that, nor the next draw. This meant that the top payout swelled to a record €240 million. On Friday, 8 December, the numbers 17, 30, 42, 48, 50 and Lucky Stars 4 and 8 were drawn, much to the good fortune of a lone player in Austria who had just become EuroMillions biggest ever lottery winner.
A EuroMillions Superdraw took place on Friday, 29 September 2023, with a huge €130 million (R2.67 billion) payout up for grabs. One player in France looked on with increasing interest as the numbers were drawn. On this occasion, the numbers were 9, 11, 13, 21, 32 with the Lucky Stars 2 and 7, and that interested party in France was R2.67 billion better off. Magnifique!
On Friday, 2 June 2023, the EuroMillions Superdraw took place. The numbers 3, 12, 15, 25, 43 and two Lucky Stars, 10 and 11, were drawn, and somewhere in the UK, one interested observer could barely believe what they were seeing. They had matched every number to hit the top payout! This blissful Brit had just won a guaranteed €130 million (R2.67 billion), and within 48 hours, they had claimed their massive windfall.
Belgium rejoiced as one lucky person scooped a heavyweight payout in March 2023! This Euromillions Superdraw had a main prize of €130 million (R2.67 billion), but it was not won on the night of the draw. This meant the prize rolled over, and on Tuesday, 7 March 2023, our buoyant Belgian claimed the €144 million (R2.96 billion) super-payout. Their winning numbers were 11, 13, 24, 35 and 50, while the two Lucky Stars were 6 and 11.
An epic rollover on 2 December 2022 saw the Superdraw series come to a thrilling conclusion when 165 Belgians from Olmen shared one winning ticket and scooped an incredible €142,897,842 (R2.63 billion) payout! With 27 million entries up for grabs across Europe, it was truly remarkable that they could claim such an impressive prize. The EuroMillions winning numbers were 12,20,25,26,27 + Lucky Stars 8 + 12.
During the Superdraw on Friday, 9 September 2022, there was no winner on the night of the draw, so the €130 million (R2.2 billion) grand prize amount rolled over until it was eventually won on Friday, 23 September, by a single ticket purchased in the UK. The final payout for the Superdraw rollover was €193 million (R3.3 billion).
Before the Superdaw in September, the previous Superdraw was held on Friday, 17 June 2022. There was no winner on the night of the draw, so the €130 million (R2.2 billion) grand prize amount rolled over until it reached the cap of €230 million (R4 billion) on Friday, July 8th.
The grand prize remained at €230 million (R4 billion) until it was won on Tuesday, 19 July 2022. Had the prize not been won, the next draw would have been a 'must-win draw', meaning that the funds designated for the grand prize would have filtered down to the following prize tiers.
A EuroMillions Superdraw had been scheduled for Friday, 29th of April. However, the grand prize had naturally reached higher than €130 million (R2.2 billion), being €158.6 million (R2.8 billion) at the time. Therefore, there was no need to boost the prize with the Superdraw. The second Superdraw of 2022 was eventually held on Friday, 17th of June, which rolled over until it hit the €230 million (R4 billion) cap and was eventually won on Friday, 19th of July.
The first EuroMillions Superdraw of 2022 was held on Friday, 4 February. A single ticket purchased in the United Kingdom was the lucky winner. The initial grand prize was €130 million (R2.2 billion), which was won on the night of the draw.
A grand prize of €143.5 million (R2.4 billion) was won in León, Spain, on Tuesday, 7th of December, 2021. The initial grand prize of €130 million (R2.2 billion) was not won on the night, so the prize rolled over. The winning ticket was sold at a tobacconist called La Catedral de León. The owner, Concepción Puente, claimed not to know the winner's identity, adding that it is also not known whether the person is local or not, as many tourists stop by the shop.
On Friday, 15 October 2021, a lucky ticketholder from Tahiti, French Polynesia, won an extraordinary €220 million (R3.8 billion). This massive win came about after the grand prize was boosted to €130 million (R2.2 billion) by a Superdraw on 24 September, which rolled over until it hit the cap of €220 million (R3.8 billion).

EURODREAMS - EUROMILLIONS SISTER LOTTERY
From November 2023, a new lottery in Europe will be introduced: EuroDreams. Created by the same people who brought us EuroMillions, EuroDreams is a simple lottery with a very interesting twist!
To bet on EuroDreams, players will need to choose six numbers from 1-40 and one ‘Dream Number’ from 1-5. If you match all numbers, then you win a payout of €20,000 per month for 30 years. For South African players, this would mean a monthly payout of around R390,000 – that’s R4.68 million every year!
Even if you do not hit the top payout, there is still a life-changing amount to be had. That is because if you match just the six main numbers, you will get paid. In this instance, you would receive €2,000 (c.R39,000) every month for 30 years.

I enjoy different genres of music, travelling, learning about history and other peoples’ adventures, and spending valuable time with family and friends. I like to push myself outside my comfort zone and enjoy new experiences. At the end of the day, you can win the lottery, but you need to put yourself out there and buy the ticket first.
